Supporting the steps towards an independent Scotland with the voters of Dunbar and East Linton

Our next planned Yes Dunbar events are as follows.  Whilst our events are planned with Yes Dunbar members in mind, we are pleased to welcome other “Yes” supporters, and those who are simply interested in finding out more about the case for an independent Scotland. We also hold some events with a cultural or social emphasis, rather than political. (For reports and photos of past events see the News page.)

AGM AND SPEAKER MEETING WITH Q MANIVANNAN MSP THURSDAY 10 SEPTEMBER 2026

For our first speaker meeting following the election of a new Scottish Parliament on 7 May 2026, we are delighted to welcome Dr Q Manivannan MSP who is one of the three newly-elected Scottish Green MSPs for the Edinburgh and Lothians East region (which includes Dunbar).

Following a brief Yes Dunbar AGM, Q Manivannan will speak on the subject: ‘Voices of New Scots in the independence movement’.

The meeting takes place at Dunbar Town House in Dunbar High Street (ERH42 1ER) on Thursday 10 September starting promptly at 7pm – see below for booking link.

Born in 1996 in the state of Tamil Nada, India, Q is one of the youngest MSPs and is now the Scottish Greens’ culture spokesperson. Following academic study and work as a research analyst in India, Q came to Ireland to take an MPhil in international peace studies (completed in 2021) and then to Scotland for doctoral studies at the University of St Andrews.

Q Mannivannan attracted interest prior to the election as they were able to stand for election as a Commonwealth citizen with a legal right to be in the UK even though only on a student visa at the time of the election, but Q is now applying for a graduate visa.  Q is one of the first two openly transgender people elected to the Scottish Parliament, along with fellow Scottish Greens MSP Iris Duane.

Please book your place at https://buytickets.at/ydevents/2248932.  The event is open to Yes Dunbar members and others interested, but only members can vote at the AGM. There is no fixed charge to attend, but please make a donation if you are able to do so: Yes Dunbar is entirely dependent on donations for our speaker meetings and all other activities.

The brief Yes Dunbar AGM will include updates on the last year, finances, and election of the new Yes Dunbar Committee. All Committee posts are up for re-election and nominations are welcome (the existing Secretary, Gareth Morgan, is stepping down so there will definitely be a vacancy for that role). Serving on the Yes Dunbar Committee is an interesting and rewarding way to take forward the campaign for an independent Scotland at local level on a non-party basis: contact secretary@yesdunbar.scot for more details.

If you are not yet signed up with Yes Dunbar please go to the Join page to register as a member or supporter to receive details of future events.
